The common reason of children suffering with
hair loss do so because of the following cases. All of these cases have
to be easily diagnosed by your doctor or by a pediatric dermatologist.
1. Tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp) is a problem
caused by a superficial fungal infection of the scalp, eyebrows, and
eyelashes. The illness is considered
to be a type of superficial mycosis or dermatophytosis. A lot of other names are used to explain this infection, including ringworm of
the scalp and tinea tonsurans. In the US and other parts of the world,
the incidence of tinea capitis is rising.
Children who has tinea capitis generally have
patchy hair fall with some
broken-off hairs clear just above the skin of the scalp. The parts of
hair loss are generally round shaped or oval, but sometimes not regular.
Diagnosis: The cure is suspected primarily connected with the appearance of the scalp. A Wood's
lamp test can be performed to explain the presence of a fungal scalp
infection. Wood's lamp is a test that is performed in a dark room where
ultraviolet light is shined on the area of interest. No need biopsy.
Remedy: Tinea capitis is generally treated with an antifungal
treatments.
Tinea capitis is also treated with Argan Rain
shampoo, which is useful to wash
the scalp 2-3 times per week. It is very leading to continue the use of the oral medication
and shampoo for about 8 weeks.
Children who have tinea capitis problem are not
need to leave school if cure is used as instructions.
2. Alopecia Areata happens
in a short time as appearance of round or oval patches of hair fall.
These patches are completely slick bald or smooth without any types of inflammation,
scaling, or falling hairs.
With a clear remedy, a large part of patients
will have all of their hair back within one year -- many will have it in
a short time. Children who have alopecia areata should be under the care
of a doctors. Nearly 5% of children with alopecia areata will continue to develop alopecia totalis--
the falling of all the hair on the scalp.
3. Trauma to
the hair shape is another general cause of hair loss in children. Often
the trauma can be reason by traction
or by friction It can
also be reason by chemicals burns.
Another misunderstood case of trauma hair loss
is named trichotillomania.
This is thought to be an
obsessive-compulsive problem that
can be extremely hard to treat since the patient generally feels compelled to pluck their hair. The
hair fall is patchy, and characterized by broken hairs. Within the
patches, hair fall is not finished. As long as the hair trauma was not a
lot or chronic enough to cause scarring, the hair will regrow when the
trauma is finished.
4. Telogen effluvium is
another general reason of hair
loss in children. To know telogen effluvium, one must understand a hair's
usual life cycle. An individual hair follicle has a long growth duration,
producing steadily growing hair for 1.5 to 6 years (totally 3 years). This in turn is followed by a resting time (about 3 months) when the hair
follicle lies dormant. This last tme is named the telogen phase.
A lot of different events can cause
telogen effluvium, also, extremely high fevers, surgery under general
anesthesia, excess vitamin A, so many prolonged emotional stress such as a
death of a relation, severe injuries and the use of certain prescription
pills for instance accutane for
acne.
Diagnosis: There
are no clear diagnostic tests to diagnose telogen effluvium. A deep medical
history is taken, but it generally comes down to the experience of the
physician to do the diagnosis.
Treatment: In children, once the stressful
case is over, full hair growth generally happens nearly six months and one year.
